Five things to do in Tenerife

Throughout the remainder of winter and spring, Pullmantur Cruises will operate a number of itineraries to and around the Canary Islands. Sailing aboard Horizon, these seven-night sailings will take you to a range of beautiful destinations – each offering a unique range of things to see and do. Better yet, you can enjoy all of this while taking advantage of an all-inclusive package that covers all meals, drinks, onboard entertainment and much more.

Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands and offers a fine range of things to see and do, with pristine beaches, mesmerising natural landmarks and must-visit attractions. Our guide this week offers an insight into five of the best activities you can enjoy during your travels in the Canaries with Pullmantur Cruises.

El Teide

Mount Teide

One of the most instantly-recognisable landmarks in the Canary Islands is the towering volcanic peak of El Teide, which you may even be able to see from the top deck of Horizon on a clear day. At 3,718m, this is the tallest mountain in Spain and the third largest volcano in the world when measured from its base on the ocean floor. From the visitor car park, a 10-minute cable car lift will take you to the summit, where you will be able to admire mesmerising views over the entire island and out to sea. It’s best to ensure you take something warm, though, as the temperature change at the summit can prove quite a shock!

San Cristóbal de La Laguna

Tenerife is home to two UNESCO World Heritage sites – the first being El Teide, while the second is the charmingly historical city of San Cristobal de La Laguna. If you are looking for a less-crowded alternative to Mount Teide, you may certainly appreciate the quaint surroundings this settlement has to offer. Much of the city’s architecture dates back to between the 16th and 18th centuries, including some of the island’s most significant religious buildings. Be sure to visit the Cathedral, the Church of Santo Domingo de Guzman and the History and Anthropology Museum.

Beaches and Water Sports

Tenerife Beach

If you are looking for some adventurous activities to enjoy during your visit to Tenerife, you will certainly be impressed with the range of opportunities available at the many beaches. Whether you are heading to the black sands of Playas Americas, the golden sands of Los Cristianos or one of the many other beaches, you will be able to enjoy a number of activities including surfing, windsurfing and jet-ski. Alternatively, you can just lay down a towel and relax as you soak up the warm rays from the sun.

Siam Park

If it is exhilaration you are looking for and you want somewhere to cool down in the heat of the sun, the thrills of Siam Park may be perfect for you. This waterpark was voted the world’s best in by TripAdvisor in 2015 and there are plenty of slides and attractions to suit the whole family. Rides include the adrenalin-pumping Tower of Power, a steep, near-vertical slide that sees you drop through a shark-infested aquarium. Alternatively, you can watch from below via the comfort of the relaxing lazy river.

Loro Parque

Lovers of marine animals will love the fantastic displays on show at Loro Parque, where you can watch shows involving dolphins and sea lions. Alternatively, you can also admire a range of sharks at the aquarium area. The park is also home to a plethora of land-based animals including tigers, lions and gorillas, so you and your family or partner will have plenty to see and do.

Tenerife is a beautiful island, with plenty to see and do. Whether you are looking for an opportunity to relax or want to soak in the charming settlements and picturesque natural surroundings, you really are spoilt for choice.

As well as Tenerife, a Canary Islands sailing with Pullmantur Cruises offers an opportunity to visit other islands in the archipelago including Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma and Fuerteventura.
